What Causes Frizzy Hair Systems?

First things first, what’s causing the unruly frizz with your client’s hairpiece? There are many different factors that can contribute to this. Things like the weather or not keeping up with proper maintenance are major culprits for toupee frizz problems. When the hair is damaged, dry, and brittle, that’s when flyways make their unwelcome appearance. We’ll get into more details up next to banish frizz for good!

How to Tame Frizz on Hairpieces

If you want to help your client tame frizz on their hair system, this starts with a solid hair system maintenance routine. This will not only prevent further frizz but help remedy it as well! There are also a few expert tips and tricks we have up our sleeves that can help your clients combat those pesky hairs that won’t cooperate.

Hydrate The Hair System

Let us be clear here: hydration, hydration, hydration! Replenishing moisture in hair systems is the number one way to keep them frizz-free. Using hair system accessories like deep conditioning treatments, leave-in conditioners, or hairpiece conditioners will help tremendously.

Avoid Using Heated Styling Tools

Heat styling is not the best idea when it comes to hair systems. Overusing heated tools for hair system styles can cause damage, dryness, and ultimately, frizz. Stick to using these tools sparingly (with a heat protectant) or not at all. Once hair system hair has heat damage, there’s no turning back.

Wear a Hat When in Extreme Weather

Super hot, cold, windy, rainy, or snowy days can wreak havoc on hair systems. Wearing a beanie on chilly winter days can help protect hairpieces from the dropping temperatures and harsh elements. When it’s a sunny and extremely hot day, wearing a hat to protect from the UV rays is a good idea.

Brush and Detangle the Toupee Regularly

Keeping up with daily brushing and detangling is a must to keep frizz at bay! Hair systems can be particularly prone to knots if not brushed as needed. Always brush before washing and before bed (but never when wet, as this can cause damage to the hair system!).

Wash With Cold or Lukewarm Water Instead of Hot

When washing hair systems, it’s always recommended to use cold to lukewarm water. If the water is too hot, it can dry out the hairpiece, which will inevitably lead to frizz central. It’s also important not to overwash the hair system, so one to two times a week is ideal, depending on your client’s lifestyle.

Take Care When Sleeping with The Hair System

If your client doesn’t take their hairpiece off before bed each night, they’ll be sleeping with it on. In this case, advise them to use a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce friction. This can help tame frizz that pops up in the morning. A sleeping cap could work as well!

Store The Hairpiece Properly When Not in Use

Ideally, your client will store their toupee in an airtight container in a cool, dark, and dust-free environment. Advise them to avoid storing it in direct sunlight or when it is still damp or wet. You can also offer to store their hairpiece for them, especially if they have a backup hair system on hand.
